Our Purpose
For decades humans have meticulously perfected analyzing financial data to predict firm performance and identify opportunities to earn supernormal returns. However, today these financial metrics are universally known and rapidly priced in, leaving little systematic opportunity. Therefore, considering qualitative factors that capture dimensions of firm quality not reflected in traditional financial metrics has become pivotal. ESG has the potential to be a useful metric in this realm but is currently calibrated to primarily indicate sustainability. At LUMIS, we aim to modify the ESG indicator to reach this potential through the incorporation of a unique, context driven, dynamic weightage framework that assigns greater weight to the ESG factors most material due to a given context and recalibrates those weights in real time as that context shifts.
Our Founder
While interning at Motilal Oswal, Nimay was astounded by the number of researchers India’s top wealth management firms had to look out for information that would never show up in a company’s financial sheets but was extremely important to predict performance. But there are thousands of information sources and context keeps changing. He feared for individual investors, who could never process information of such magnitudes. This sparked an interest in ESG’s potential to be a cumulative indicator of qualitative information. After interning at CrediblESG, Nimay wrote a quantitative paper regarding the importance of pillar weightages in composite ESG scores’ ability to indicate financial performance. Stemming from this idea, LUMIS was founded to allow individual investors to use the most comprehensive iteration of the context-driven dynamic weightage framework to aid them in their investment decisions.
